Luciol Philosophy

Luciol key objective is to make easier roll-out of digital technology in process control, where co-exist field devices of different generations.

Luciol has been designed to:
  • federate field equipment over IP network,
  • provide I/O modules for direct connection to process control devices,
  • be an event driven data server capable of notifying data subscribers,

and to fit technical constraints:
  • harsh environments -utility grade-, with no mechanical parts,
  • 1 ms time stamping of IOs,
  • configuration and operation of any Luciol  application using an Internet Browser,

under some financial constraints to encompass lifetime costs:
  • initial standard price must be as low as possible,
  • engineering costs must be reduced as much as possible: configuration, installation and testing,
  • industrialize hardware and software to reduce maintenance costs.

We have used technology like Java and harden hardware in order to allow Luciol to be used by the massive community of IT & Automation engineers and technicians.

Luciol can be either an end-product or an hardware & software base platform to develop your own end-product.

Used as an end-product Luciol may be a smart complementary IO RTU, a data hub, a protocol gateway, a monitoring interface, ...

Used as a base platform for your application development, Luciol is entirely programmable in Java with some simple real-time primitives. There is no required background in a specific Real-Time Operating Systems.

Intensive use of existing Open Source applications and Luciol community will quickly push you forward to provide powerful and smart solutions. Luciol spirit facilitates development of specific hardware modules and/or software applications.

We even re-use without lenghty porting our code to run in PC environments.

All the technical features of Luciol have been engineered to make integration in digital control systems cost efficient over Luciol lifetime.
